Reading Reflection Number 2

"How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big" By Scott Adams 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? The general theme was to keep pursuing what you want in life or what your business goals are even if it does not seem like they are going to work out well. Adams worked to reiterate the point that you need to "fail" at a great number of things before you are able to have your successful venture that you have been working towards.  2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? I think the book has fit well with the class because we have learned that you cannot just expect to succeed right away with a business that you start. I think that they make some of the same points by saying that you have to be patient and put in hard work for your business idea to pay off, and even sometimes, when you do those things, it does not work out as planned.  3) If you had to design an exercise for thi...

Idea Napkin 2

1) As a Customer Service Staff at Publix, it is my job to handle money in a few of its forms,  including in the way of debit and credit cards. I see every day the frustration that customers and cashiers have when a card does not work or takes multiple tries to go through. For my business, I would like the new style of cards to be implemented at a few of the local banks first and then the larger ones to spread my customer base. I would like for customers to be able to get rid of the frustration of having a card not work due to damage. 2) I am offering a card made out of titanium that gives customers the peace of mind that it will not get damaged or break before it expires. As of now, customers experience a high number of card issues that could be fixed with this titanium card. 3) The product I am offering will not be offered directly to customers, but instead to banks and credit union first then to individual customers. Once a bank has contracted with my company, they can offer...

Create a Customer Avatar

My customer is a mid aged female who has been married for almost ten years and has two kids. She likes to spend her time practicing her photography by taking pictures of here children and family since she is a photographer as a part time job. She drives a white minivan since she has two kids and her and her husband are planning to have another child. She likes to watch comedy shows and reality game shows when she has some time after the kids go to sleep. She enjoys reading on her kindle and tends to read fiction or historical fiction since that is what interests her most. She loves her family most out of everything and she works hard every day to make sure that she is a good wife and an even better mother to her children.  I do not have a great amount in common with my avatar, however, the avatar shares some similarities with my mother and aunt and I think that is where I drew inspiration from. I think that most small business entrepreneurs want a company that will serve ...

Elevator Pitch 2

1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCDXJRSBhnI&t=2s 2) Reflection: Overall, I think the feedback I got was along the lines of what I thought it would be. I was praised for my idea and my peers liked how I introduced it as well. I was told that I had a nice flow and that I was able to convey what I wanted to say without going into too much detail.  3) I did not change much in my elevator pitch. However, I did change a few of the sentences and wordings of it to give it a better flow and make more sense for the audience.

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior Number 2

Interview 1: Alex explained to me that since she runs a business that she purchases things for frequently, she uses her business's card every day at least once a day but usually two to four times a day. She says she chose to open her business's bank account with the bank that she did based on their fees and interest rates, she did not ask about the type of card they use because she did not think it really matters. After I informed Alex of my idea for more durable debit cards she told me that if that was a thing that she could chose from she would have looked into it more and spent time looking into types of cards as well as fees and interest rates. Overall Alex seemed content with her choice based on fees and interest rates, however she is not happy with her card and the fact that it does not always work with card readers. Interview 2: Michelle says that she and her husband chose where they bank but that she didn't really have a preference. She has three kids and she ...

Reading Reflection Number 1

Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald's (by Ray Kroc) 1) You read about an entrepreneur: What surprised you the most? I was surprised that Ray Kroc started what would be his most successful business idea when he was much older than expected. He had already had multiple careers when he partnered with the McDonald's brothers.  What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admired that he was never going to give up on his business even if it meant working long hours and paying himself very little. What about the entrepreneur did you  least  admire? I did not admire that he came across as though he knew he was going to succeed. It is one thing to believe in yourself and your idea, but he seemed to think that he would succeed no matter what because he was putting in the work.  Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it? Ray Kroc encountered most of his hard times with failure before his partnering with the McDonal...

Halfway Reflection

1)  Tenaciousness is a competency.  Before beginning this class, I thought that I was pretty good at time management for my classes. This is my first semester having more than one online class at one time, this has made me realize that my time management skills needed some work. At the start of the course I was able to keep up with most of my assignments but I had to rush more than I wanted to. I have gotten to work on these skills and I have been able to get more of my assignments done much before the deadline.  2)  Tenaciousness is also about attitude.  I feel as though things that I have been through prior to this class have made me work on a "not giving up" attitude. I think that through this course so far I have been able to increase that attitude and make it even easier for me to push through and continue to work towards my goals. I think that Professor Pryor's lectures have helped me to be interested in what I am learning which makes working on an ...
