Over the pas semester I really enjoyed watching the lectures for this class and even though I was not able to interact with the class, it was an enjoyable experience and I was able to learn a lot while laughing and liking the creative stories. I think that it is important that this semester brought on some failures as well, even if they were minor and not significant in the grand scheme of things. Like we learned in a previous assignment, failure is a great way to learn and should be used to grow from. I am proud that I was able to come this far with my idea for a venture and even though I personally do not think that it would be something I take on, it seems like something that could be feasible. I think that while I do not have an entrepreneurial mindset, I have moved a lot closer, I think that I was able to see how you should think things through as an entrepreneur. It seems like the best advice I could give to future students in the same position, I would say to keep up with your work and try very hard not to get behind on any submissions. I think to best perform in this course, you need to either attend the lectures or watch them before the "cupcake" and make sure to submit all of your assignments on time. As long as they are able to work hard on their time management and are able to be determined in this course they should be able to do well.
Cognitive Surplus by Clay Shirky 1) The general theme of the book was talking about how previously, the majority of people spent their free time watching TV while now that has shifted a bit. Now, people are spending portions of their free time online collaborating with others whether it be a meaningful collaboration or not. These types of collaborations are creating what is called a cognitive surplus which addresses the excess productivity that happens outside of one's work. 2) I think that the book showed how someone might come up with an idea for a business venture. If you are constantly working on small projects with friends over the internet, it is very possible that one of those ideas could bee feasible and created to make money. 3) If I were to design an exercise based on the book I would make it a collaboration assignment. I would like for two to three students to work together to either fit together their venture ideas that are already in progress, or if that ...

Hi Riley,
ReplyDeleteI really like you post and agree with many things you said. I also believe that the lectures were fun to watch at times and that i have learned a lot from them. It is cool to hear that you are proud of yourself for coming with your venture this far along till the end of the class. Great job!
HI Riley,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your posts throughout the class. Your answers were always very insightful and well thought out. They allowed me to think outside of my realm of comfort and begin to discover entrepreneurial mindsets. Thanks!
